Panic Attacks

Panic attacks can be incredibly frightening. They often come on suddenly and can feel as though they’ll never end. Many of my clients have shared that the sensations were so intense they thought they were having a medical emergency and went to hospital for help.

You might notice your heart racing, shortness of breath, dizziness, shaking or chest pain. Some people describe feeling trapped, as though they can’t get enough air, or that they’re losing control. These experiences can be deeply distressing — especially when you don’t understand why they’re happening.

If you’re experiencing panic attacks, it’s often a sign that your mind and body are responding to something deeper — a layer of anxiety, stress or emotion that hasn’t yet had the space to be fully understood. Together, we can gently explore what might be sitting underneath the panic so that you can begin to feel more grounded and in control.

Because panic attacks can happen so quickly, it can be helpful to have grounding techniques that you can turn to right away. During our sessions, we’ll find approaches that feel natural and supportive for you — small, practical steps you can use when you begin to notice the early signs of panic. Over time, these tools can help you feel calmer and more confident in your ability to manage what’s happening.

Counselling offers a safe space to understand the patterns behind panic attacks, explore possible triggers, and learn how to respond with kindness rather than fear. We’ll move at your pace, focusing on what feels manageable for you.
