Leah Walker BA Counselling
If you’re feeling stuck, weighed down, or unsure of your next step, you don’t have to go through it alone. Anxiety can affect your relationships, your social life, your job and your physical health. With lived experience as a survivor and carer, and a Counsellor of many people who live with anxiety, I have seen the impacts of anxiety unfold.

Hi, I’m Leah Walker.
I’m a Strengths-based Counsellor, and I’m here to support you when life feels heavy, confusing, or overwhelming. I know reaching out for help isn’t easy, and it can feel like a big step. That’s why I create a space where you can feel safe, calm, and understood—without judgement. You don’t have to go through this on your own.
My Journey
My path to counselling hasn’t been a straight line. I began my career in public libraries, connecting with people from all walks of life. Those years taught me how powerful it can be to really listen and make someone feel seen.
Later, I worked in a residential rehab supporting people recovering from alcohol and drug addictions, and I’ve also been alongside small business owners after the 2022 floods. I’ve run groups, facilitated workshops, and worked in a not-for-profit as a generalist counsellor. Every step has shown me how resilient people can be, even when life feels at its hardest.
How I Work
In our sessions, the pace is always set by you. My role is to walk alongside you with warmth, curiosity, and compassion, helping you explore what matters most and find ways forward that feel right for you.
I use a range of approaches, depending on your needs:
- EFT (Tapping): calming stress and releasing tension through gentle tapping on pressure points.
- CBT: noticing unhelpful thoughts and shifting toward more supportive ones.
- DBT: practical skills for managing strong emotions and finding balance.
- Motivational Interviewing: building your own motivation and confidence for change.
- Solution-Focused Therapy: finding small, achievable steps when life feels overwhelming.
- Walk and Talk Therapy: taking therapy outside, where moving together in nature can feel lighter and less confronting.
My approach is trauma-informed, which simply means your safety, comfort, and experience will always guide the process.
My Training

- Bachelor of Counselling
- Certified in Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
- Training in DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and ASIST (suicide intervention skills)
- Advanced Certificate in Grief and Loss
- Certificate IV Skill Set Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD)
I’m also a member of the Australian Counselling Association, and I hold myself to their ethical standards.
Moving Forward
You don’t need to have it all figured out before starting counselling. Sometimes the first step is simply knowing you’d like things to feel different. I offer in-person sessions in Wangaratta, Victoria, and online across Australia. If you’re unsure, I provide a free phone chat so we can talk through what you need and see if I’m the right fit for you.
At the heart of my work is a belief that you already carry the strength and capacity to heal and grow. Together, we can find the strategies and support that help you move forward with more clarity, confidence, and hope.
