Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, or CBT, is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. When anxiety takes hold, it can shape the way you think and how you respond to certain situations — often without you even realising it. Together, we can explore these patterns so you can begin to regain a sense of control and confidence in your life.
Understanding your thought patterns
CBT focuses on the idea that our thoughts influence how we feel and act. When we’re anxious, it’s common to have thoughts that are harsh, self-critical, or based on fear. These thoughts can make situations feel even more overwhelming. In our sessions, we’ll look at what triggers your anxiety, what tends to run through your mind in those moments, and how those thoughts shape your feelings and actions.
We might gently explore questions such as, What’s prompted this thought? or What past experience might be shaping how I see this situation? This process can bring awareness to how certain beliefs have developed — and how they might be holding you back now.

Shifting unhelpful patterns
Avoiding situations that make you anxious can feel like the safest option in the moment, but over time it can reinforce the fear and make life feel smaller. CBT offers a way to break that cycle. Together, we’ll design practical, realistic strategies to help you face challenges at your own pace — building confidence and reducing the grip anxiety has on your life.
Sometimes this means gently challenging unhelpful thoughts. For example, shifting from “I can’t handle this” to “I can learn to handle this” can open the door to new possibilities. I may invite you to look for evidence behind your thoughts or consider other ways of interpreting a situation. This helps you see things more clearly and respond in ways that support your wellbeing.
Working together
When I use CBT in counselling, my role is to walk alongside you — not to tell you what to think, but to help you notice what’s happening in your inner world and discover new ways of responding. Together, we’ll explore unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours, and you’ll begin to replace them with ones that feel more supportive, balanced, and empowering.
My goal is to help you feel calmer, more capable, and more in tune with yourself — so you can move forward with a greater sense of confidence and self-trust.
