My Approach

Hi, I’m Leah Walker.

As a Counsellor, I take a strengths-based approach to therapy. This means I work with care and respect for your experiences, helping you build on the inner strengths you already have — even when it doesn’t feel like they’re there.

When you come to see me, whether in-person in Wangaratta or online from anywhere in Australia, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, valued and understood. You set the pace, and together we explore what’s happening for you, one step at a time.

Supporting you through anxiety and overwhelm

I work with adults who are navigating anxiety and related challenges such as stress, depression, low self-esteem and emotional overwhelm. Anxiety often shows up not just in the mind, but also in the body. You might notice a racing heart, muscle tension, nausea, sweaty palms, or disturbed sleep. Sometimes there’s a tightness in the chest or a sinking feeling in the stomach — subtle cues that anxiety may be rising.

Part of our work together involves noticing these sensations and learning what they might be trying to tell you. As you begin to recognise your body’s early warning signs, you can start using strategies to calm your system and manage symptoms before they take hold.

Finding what works for you

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to managing anxiety. Techniques such as breathwork, grounding and mindfulness can be helpful, but what matters most is finding what works for you. Together, we’ll build a personalised toolbox of strategies that you can draw on in everyday life. It’s a process of gentle trial and error, guided by compassion and curiosity rather than pressure or perfection.

Exploring the deeper layers

When you feel ready, we can look more deeply at what might be triggering your anxiety — and sometimes, where it began. This can involve exploring past experiences, patterns or beliefs that may still be influencing how you feel today. It’s thoughtful, supported work that helps you understand yourself more clearly and move forward with greater ease and confidence.

Throughout this process, you’ll always be met with warmth, encouragement and respect. I’m on your side — here to help you find strength, build confidence, and move toward the calm and fulfilling life you deserve.
